A former student of mine from WCC wrote the haunting Christmas poem that is here set to music for SATB choir.

1. In deepest winter earth bowed down
With frozen heart and mind of ice
While darkness wrapped it all around
And hid the life within.

2. Yet through the darkness of that night
Amid the frozen, weeping trees
A star reached out to touch the place
Wherein a baby lay.

3. This child lies with ox and cow,
Yet kings come far, and heavens bend
To sinful earth to worship Him
Who lies in golden light.

(Clotilde Zehnder)
